- How do I measure a cane I already have?
What you want to measure is actually the distance between the palm of your hand resting on your cane and the floor. This means you measure from the top of the handle of the cane, where your hand rests, straight down and including the rubber tip. This is the length of the cane. When you ask to have a cane sized for you, then you give this length to us to trim it to.

- How do I measure myself for a cane?
You need the help of another person -- stand normally, in your walking shoes, and the other person will mark on a vertical surface (like a wall or a yardstick) where your wrist naturally falls when pretending to hold a cane. The distance from your wrist to the floor is the approximate length of a cane for that hand. Err on the side of too long rather than too short! I would add about a 1/2 inch, just to be safe. Most any hardware store or Home Depot will trim the cane a bit shorter for you.

- What kind of materials are handles made of? How are handles attached to canes?
Wood, acrylic, ABS or some other hard plastic, lucite, bone, metal plated or solid, animal horn, carved mineral, or resin -- this is not a complete list, by any means! There are more materials for modern, antique, and historic handles than you can shake a cane at! They are attached by screw, by glue, by cement, by multiple ways, to enable us to guarantee the strength up to a certain body weight. If not listed, and you need to support say, over 250 lbs,, please ask.

- What kind of accessories do you have for canes, hiking staffs, crutches, rollators and walkers?
We carry rubber and metal tips (ferrules), cane stands and individual cane holders, wrist straps, mud & snow baskets, replacement compasses, ice grips, walker wheels, glide brakes, front and side pouches, and a mitre box and saw for trimming your own canes. We would be glad to fulfill special requests, also. If you don't see an accessory you need, send an email to VALERY@CANESGALORE.COM, and I will look for it.

- I want a very light but strong cane - what are my choices?
The lightest canes we carry have bamboo shafts, but are hard to get. There are also aluminum folding canes, and telescoping canes made of lightweight metal. If you have a specific type of cane material in mind, or a specific request (less than 1 pound weight) email it to us to work on suggestions for you.

- I saw someone with a wonderful cane that I want, but I don't see it on your website. Can you help?
I would love to! I use any spare time I have researching special requests, and just plain looking around. I also have several books by prominent collectors and historians about canes all over the world. Plus, if I find you a great deal I can't match, I refer you there. I also know talented canemakers who could duplicate a cane to your specifications, or carve out a cane unique to your preferences.

- I want to get a cane for someone -- what size should I get?
If you do not have a way to find out this person's "size" or handle preference, you could buy an adjustable cane. They adjust within a range of lengths, and have derby or fritz handles, which are universally used and comfortable under just about any circumstance. We also have gift vouchers available through this new website. You could also purchase an uncut cane, which is fully exchangeable or refundable when returned in original condition within 30 days.

- I want a walking cane just like my grandpa had. Can you help?
Yes. Send me a picture, or fax it to me, and let's see if I can match it. If not, I will offer you some close cousins to Granpa's cane.

- I hate ordinary canes -- I want one with a fancy handle/unusual woods/no collar/antique history, etc.
Canes that are labeled Novelty or Collector's Items, or are System or Gadget canes, were not made specifically to support a person's weight. If you need a cane for support, we have plenty to choose from that are beautiful, classy, colorful AND can take the weight! Rarely, I may have a vintage cane available, but it will be listed on our eBay store, "Canes For All Walks of Life". Plus, you can email any request anytime.

- This cane was cut too short - can I return it and get my money back?
If you gave me explicit directions to cut a cane to a certain length, it will be difficult to find another buyer for the same cane, same size. Canes that are cut are considered personalized and are non-returnable. If the cane IS returnable, you would get a merchandise credit. If it is too short due to OUR error, you get your entire price, including shipping and handling, refunded to your credit card or Paypal account, or applied toward another purchase -- your choice!

- Can you fix, refinish, replace parts and/or refit my cane?
Canes Galore can replace removeable parts, like the tips, but not the handle nor the shaft. I do, however, know of true master craftsmen who can help you at a reasonable price, and do quality work. Just email VALERY@CANESGALORE.COM, and I will forward your request to them. Include pictures of the cane if possible, and some info on what you want done.

- I saw a cane made by Fayet of France/Gastrock of Germany/Finna of Spain/Coopers of England, etc. Can you get that exact one for me?
Yes and Maybe: Maybe not that specific cane, but I have suppliers who carry them in the USA I can order from. Let me know the item number and I can add it to our inventory for you to buy, if not already there. I have recently updated with Fayet of France walking sticks, including sword canes, dragon and skull theme canes. Please ask if you don't see what you are looking for....

- I want a cane with a theme (sports team, holiday, transportation vehicle, pet, place, etc.) Do you have those?
If I don't have what you are looking for, I will refer you to someone else who does, or who could make one for you. Do a search though this website using "golf" or "greyhound" or other seach term, and items with those words in the description will come up. Check the Novelty canes section for our widest selection.

- Do you sell vintage or antique walking canes?
Sometimes -- let me know what you are looking for, including pictures, if you can, and I will refer you to the proper person to handle that request.
